Dawn West Land Development

Engineer: Inertia LandAI

Tech Solution: Level AI

Location: Queensland, Australia

Project Size: 130 hectares

Road Network: 10km

Level AI ensured the major earthworks, roading and water management for this 130 hectares community were optimally designed from every angle.

Dawn West is a major new neighbourhood within the Dawn master-planned community at Walloon, in Queensland’s western Ipswich growth corridor. As part of an 1,800-lot estate, it extends the urban footprint with a mix of residential streets, parks and green corridors arranged around a rehabilitated waterway and floodplain.

Within this context, Dawn West presents a complex grading and drainage challenge, balancing efficient earthworks, flood resilience and buildable lot levels. To tackle this, the lead civil engineer partnered with Allsite.ai, using Level AI to rapidly iterate and optimise road geometry, lot grading and earthworks volumes while preserving the intent of the master plan.

The Challenge

The Dawn west project had a large amount of grade to deal with on the site along with strict flooding requirements. Balancing the cut and fill on the site was critical to keep development costs down. Fast iteration was very important— producing a balanced site and full servicing design (storm and sanitary) within a week or two.

Technology in Action

To overcome these challenges, Allsite.ai's Level AI , intelligent tools designed to automate and optimize engineering designs:

  • Minimum elevations added to pads, maximum retaining wall heights configured

  • Roading network compliant with local engineering rules.

  • Flood modelling performed using Tuflow and Allsite’s automations

  • All drawings automatically produced using Allsite.ai’s webapp.

  • Storm and sanitary inverts designed and pipes sized using Service AI 1.0

  • All walls and slopes automatically generated and sized.

  • Highly optimized site design running billions of iterations to achieve a balanced earthworks design to within a 200m3

The Results

This project showcased how an engineering consultancy can leverage advanced technology to offer real advantages to their clients through speed and accuracy of design. The client, saved $2.5m in earthworks costs vs an initial design surface that was supplied
